Debbie's in Phoenix now.

I had a very bittersweet farewell lunch with Debbie yesterday. We packed up the last of her stuff.

The cold weather was blowing in and she cut these newly sprouted jonquils from her yard just ahead of the frost. She gave them to me.

I guess I should say they represent the fresh start she and Leonard are making in a new city.

She asked me to mother her violet.

It's supposed to be 83 degrees today in Phoenix.

She's coming back in April, but I'll be out of the country.

I'm going to stop typing now.

My heart is super sad and I'm not even there. The African violet is a lot of pressure. Good luck with that.

I told her bye the other day. I followed her most of the way to her car, then I realized she wasn't taking me with her, and my following after her was not gonna keep her here. She was leaving, for real.

I loved how she would say at every camp that "this was her last one." The year the toilets overflowed in Smith Pulliam was priceless ... her coming down at some God awful time of the night to let us know ... in detail ... why they were stopped up. She didn't hold back. I'll miss that.

This kind of friendship is the true foundation we are all standing on. Caroline, you must be a pretty special friend to have such grand responsibilities. I love you girl. You sure do know how to hold up us all that have left our "little town" and moved on with what God directs. Thanks so much for always being that kind of friend. Rest now.

Caroline, that voilet has been sitting in our kitchen for as long as I can remember. Take good care of it!

I was in Smith Pulliam that year. It was not pretty. Deb was not a happy counselor. Which is why it was so funny.

I went by to say goodbye the night before she flew out and I hated seeing things cleaned out of her house! It hit me then that she was really leaving. :>( But, I know God has orchestrated this move and someone in Phoenix needs Mama Debbie!
